Consolation Game - 2005 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship
Dec. 4, 2005 LEWISBURG, Pa. - No. 3 Loyola Marymount won the consolation game in the 2005 NCAA Men's Water Polo Championships over the No. 4 seed St. Francis (N.Y.), 10-6, on Sunday afternoon in Bucknell University's Kinney Natatorium. The score was tied at the end of the first quarter, 2-2, but LMU scored two goals in the second period, while holding St. Francis to none. Both of the third and fourth quarters belonged to the Lions, as they outscored the Terriers 3-2 in each. Leading the LMU offense was Cutberto Hernandez with three goals, while Endre Rex-Kiss and Brian McShane each had two. Ben Easton, Ryan Gilmore and Scott Marshall also contributed one goal each. Defensively, the Lion's goalie, Ian Elliot, had 12 saves in the victory. On the other end of the pool, St. Francis had only one man with multiple tallies, Milos Vuksic, who had two, while Gergely Fabian, Stephan Mudreac, Nemanja Pucarevic and Botond Szalma each added a score. The Terriers' Dusko Radovanac made a strong showing in the goal with nine saves, but did not block enough shots to lead his team to a victory. LMU fell to No. 2 Stanford yesterday in a very tight 7-6 loss, while St. Francis lost to No. 1 USC, 14-8. The Lions finished the 2005 season with a final record of 19-16, while the Terriers finished 20-10 overall.
