  • ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Bucknell senior wrestler David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Central) won the 133-pound weight class at Navy Classic for the third consecutive year on Saturday. He was one of four Bison to post titles en route to a third-place overall team finish. Bucknell finished with 120.5 points, behind only host Navy (137) and Virginia Tech (126.5).

Marble, who won the Navy Classic in 2007 and 2008, continued his streak with three straight victories. The top seed in the field, he pinned Navy’s Jared Anongos in 6:39 in his first match, posted a 13-3 major decision in the semifinals and then scratched out a 2-0 decision over Virginia Tech’s Erik Spjut in the finals. It is the second victory this season for Marble over Spjut as they faced each other last week in a dual, which Marble won 12-4.

Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon), Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) and Jay Hahn (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) joined Marble in the winner’s circle as the Bison’s four gold-medal winners equaled Virginia Tech for the most in the nine-team field. Navy claimed the other two first-place finishes. Overall, Bucknell had six wrestlers advance to the finals of their respective weight classes.

LeValley, who placed second at the Navy Classic last year, also faced a rematch from last weekend in his championship bout at 149 pounds. Last week, he defeated Virginia Tech’s Pete Yates, who is ranked 20th nationally, 15-2. He nearly duplicated that Saturday, winning 13-2. LeValley, who is unranked, but was the top seed in his weight class, had a tougher road than Marble to the championship bout, winning 4-0 and 5-3 in his other two matches.

Teammate John Regan (Plum Borough, Pa./Kiski School) joined LeValley in the 149-pound weight class and finished fifth. He was one of 12 total placewinners for the Bison on Saturday.

Riccio breezed through to his first career Navy Classic title, posting a 3-0 record from his top-seeded position. The senior two-time NCAA qualifier defeated Bloomsburg’s Nathan Graham 2-0 in the title bout. Riccio improved his standing by two spots from last year’s third-place showing at the Navy Classic.

Bison dominated the 197-pound weight class as Hahn and Joe McMullan (Easton, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) both advanced to the finals with Hahn posting an 8-6 victory. Hahn, who finished fifth at last year’s Navy Classic, won by scores of 9-4 and 13-5 en route to the finals, while McMullan posted 10-7 and 1-0 victories.

Bucknell also had multiple placewinners at 141 pounds with freshman Zac Hancock Laura, Ohio/Troy Christian) coming in second and Adam Healey Wilkes Barre, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) placing fifth. Healey lost to eventual champion Christopher Diaz in his second bout and proceeded to battle back through the consolation bracket to take fifth. Overall, he wrestled six matches on Saturday and was 4-2.

Brantley Hooks (3rd at 157), Rob Waltko (5th at 184), Derrik Russell (6th at 125) and Nicholas Czapla (6th at 165) were Bucknell’s other placewinners. A total of 19 Bison competed on Saturday and 12 ended up finishing in the top six of their respective weight classes.
