Trio of Bucknell Wrestlers Set to Begin Competition at NCAA Championships on Thursday

Championship Brackets March 14, 2007 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Freshmen David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville), Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway) and Eric Lapotsky (Mount Carmel, Pa./Mount Carmel Area) will represent the Bucknell wrestling squad at the NCAA Championships as the trio will be vying for All-America status at the three-day tournament held at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills, Mich., this Thursday-through-Saturday, Mar. 15-17. Marble, who earned an NCAA wildcard berth after taking sixth in the 133-pound bracket at the EIWA Championships, will face Tyler Dillashaw of Fullerton in the first round, which will begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Marble went 16-6 in duals (6-1 EIWA) during the regular season and is currently 23-11 overall. He placed fifth at the Navy Classic and won his weight at the Shorty Hitchcock Open. Marble was named Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week once during the season after upsetting then-ranked No. 10 Joe Baker, 8-6, in Bucknell's dual meet at Navy. Marble defeated Baker, who is a fellow national qualifier, once again at the EIWA Tournament, 7-5 in overtime, to advance to the semifinal round. Rendos automatically qualified for the NCAA Tournament with his third-place finish at EIWAs. The 165-pounder claimed a spot in the InterMat/NWCA/NWMA Division I Individual Rankings every week during the regular season, peaking at No. 15 in the pre-NCAA poll on Mar. 7. Rendos and Lapotsky both set the program record for dual-meet victories in a season during the 2006-07 campaign, going 19-2 in duals (6-1 EIWA). Rendos currently holds a team-best overall record of 26-4, placed first at the Navy Classic and was third at the Shorty Hitchcock Open. At the NCAA Championships, he will face Brian Perry of Stanford in his first match. Lapotsky wrestles at 197 and was also an automatic qualifier via a third-place showing at the EIWA Tournament where he picked up a win over defending EIWA champion Matt Cassidy of Lehigh in the consolation final. In addition to sharing the single-season dual meet wins record with Rendos, Lapotsky is tired for eighth all-time in program history for pins in a season with a team-best 12 wins by fall and currently holds an overall record of 25-4. Lapotsky took second place at both the Navy Classic and the Shorty Hitchcock Open and was a two-time Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week. At Auburn Hills on Thursday, Lapotsky will face Nick Roy of Michigan in the first round of the NCAA Championships. Bucknell has had 51 NCAA qualifiers in program history, including four All-Americans. The top eight placewinners at each weight class are awarded All-America status.
