Bucknell Wrestling's Incoming Recruiting Class Receives Ranking from InterMat

July 9, 2007

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell wrestling's incoming class of recruits was tabbed 28th in the nation among Division I programs according to InterMat, which recently announced its recruiting class rankings for 2007. For a second consecutive year, the Bison received recognition from the publication as head coach Dan Wirnsberger's group from 2006 was ranked on the 30-team list, as well, and went on to post a school-record win total in 2006-07, while also yielding three national qualifiers.

Bucknell was one of five Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) teams to make this year's list. Five-time conference champion Lehigh led the group with a No.-13 ranking and Cornell, who won the 2007 EIWA title, was tabbed 15th. Harvard, Penn and Columbia were also ranked, coming in at No. 20, 21 and 24, respectively. This past season, the highly-competitive EIWA sent 47 individuals to the NCAA Championships, which was second to only the Big Ten in qualifier allotments.

Thirteen recruits will join the Bucknell squad this fall including 2007 PIAA AAA champion Rob Waltko (174) out of Pittsburgh, Pa., four-time state champion Kevin LeValley (149) from Hugo, Colo., 133-pounder Eric Harris of Green River, Wyo., and Kevin Carrillo (125) of Belen, N.M. Last month, the group earned a ranking in Wrestling International Newsmagazine's (W.I.N.) top-25 list of recruiting classes.

The Bison, who went 12-9-1 in dual-meet competition last season, 3-3-1 in the EIWA, will open up their 2007-08 campaign on Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Navy Classic in Annapolis, Md.
