Bucknell Wrestling Recruiting Class Ranked 25th Nationally by The Open Mat
July 9, 2009
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell wrestling program sent a school-record six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, had its first All-American in more than a decade and tied for third at the EIWA Championships in 2008-09. Head coach Dan Wirnsberger parlayed that success into a strong seven-person recruiting class that was recently ranked 25th nationally by The Open Mat. Bucknell, which posted an 11-9 mark this past season, was ranked fourth among EIWA teams, behind only Cornell (8th), Lehigh (17th) and Columbia (24th). Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Minnesota and Penn State comprised the top five teams in the rankings. The Bison's seven newcomers will join a squad that returns All-American Andy Rendos as well as NCAA qualifiers Derek Reber, David Marble, Kevin LeValley, Shane Riccio and David Thompson. The 2009-10 campaign will be the fourth season for the Bucknell wrestling program since its reinstatement to varsity status and it will be the first time Wirnsberger will have a group of seniors on the roster.
