Bucknell Wrestling Faces Tough Dual-Meet Tests in Week Ahead

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell wrestling team will face several tough dual-meet tests in the week ahead as the Bison will travel to Army for a 7 p.m. match-up on Tuesday, Nov. 20, and will then head to Troy, N.Y., on Saturday, Nov. 24, for the Northeast Duals where they will face No. 5 Michigan at 10 a.m., Appalachian State at 12 p.m., and No. 12 Hofstra at 4:30 p.m. BISON WRESTLING NOTEBOOK A Look at Bucknell's Probable Starters- 125: Freshman José Matos (Williamstown, N.J./St. Augustine Prep). He is currently 5-5 on the year with a fourth-place finish at the Binghamton Open and a sixth-place finish at the Navy Classic - 133: Sophomore co-captain David Marble (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville Area). He is 7-1 on the year with a runner-up finish at the Binghamton Open and won the 133-pound title at the Navy Classic. - 141: Freshman Eric Harris (Green River, Wyo./Green River) or sophomore Luke Chohany (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita). Harris is 5-4 on the year with two pins and placed fifth at the Navy Classic. Chohany holds a record of 5-4 with one pin and two major decisions. - 149: Freshman Kevin LeValley (Hugo, Colo./Limon). LeValley is off to a hot start to his collegiate career as he is tied for the team lead in wins with a record of 8-3. He has placed at both the Binghamton Open (third) and at the Navy Classic (fourth), and five of his wins have come by major decision. - 157: Freshman Ryan Ochalek (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) or sophomore Brantley Hooks (Spartansburg, S.C./James F. Byrnes). Ochalek placed fourth at the Navy Classic and is 6-4 with two pins, one technical fall and one major decision. Hooks did not compete at the Navy Classic, but went 3-1 at the Binghamton Open to finish in fourth place. - 165: Sophomore co-captain Andy Rendos (Brockway, Pa./Brockway Area). Rendos is tied for the team lead with eight wins. He is 8-2 on the year with a fourth-place finish at the Binghamton Open and a first-place finish at the Navy Classic. Five of Rendos' eight wins have come by major decision. - 174: Sophomore Shane Riccio (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills) or freshman Rob Walkto (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny). Riccio placed fourth at the Navy Classic and is 3-4 on the year. Waltko holds a 5-4 overall record and captured fifth at the Navy Classic. - 184: Freshman David Thompson (West Liberty, Ohio/Graham Local). Thompson opened his collegiate career at the Navy Classic and went 4-1 with two major decisions to place third. - 197: Sophomore Sean LoCurto (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City). LoCurto is 1-4 on the season after competing at both the Binghamton Open and the Navy Classic. - 285: Sophomore co-captain George Hingson (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area). Hingson is tied for the tea lead in wins with a record of 8-3. He placed fifth at both the Binghamton Open and at the Navy Classic, recording two pins at the Binghamton Open.
A Recap of the Navy Classic - Bucknell enjoyed a successful season opener on Saturday as the Bison took home 12 place-winning performances at the Navy Classic on the way to a third-place finish out of 12 teams. Bucknell finished with 132 points, while Bloomsburg was first with 161.5 and Navy second with 140. - Marble and Rendos each took first at their respective weights as Marble was the champion at 133 pounds, while Rendos won the 165-pound bracket. - Three members of the Orange and Blue placed at 125, led by sophomore Greg Hart (Bedminster, N.J./Bernards), who took second at that weight. Freshmen Kevin Carrillo (Belen, N.M./Belen) and Matos placed fifth and sixth, respectively. - Harris took fifth at 149 pounds after opening the tournament with an upset by pinning No. 2-seed Tim Harner of Liberty in 5:55. - At 149, LeValley placed fourth and posted two major decisions, including a 9-0 victory over No. 4-seed Bryce Saddoris of Navy. - Ochalek placed fourth at 157. After dropping his second round bout, Ochalek rallied for five wins in the consolation bracket before being edged by Frankie McLaughlin, 6-5 for third in the final bout. - In the 174-pound bracket, Riccio finished fourth and Waltko captured fifth. Waltko won five matches in wrestle-backs after dropping his first round bout to No. 3-seed Mike Whalen of Rutgers. - Thompson posted two major decisions before falling to No.-1 seed Matt Parsons in the semifinal, 6-3. He then recovered with wins over Sam O'Hair of Davidson (8-1) and KC Caldwell of Navy (3-2) to take third place at 184. - Hingson dropped his opening match to seventh-ranked Ed Prendergast of Navy in overtime, 5-3, but responded by rattling off a string of three victories in the consolation bracket and placed fifth.
