Bucknell Men's and Women's Cross Country Sweeps George Washington Invitational
Sept. 24, 2005 CENTREVILLE, Va. - Both Bucknell's men's and women's cross country teams placed first overall at the George Washington Invitational held on Saturday morning at the Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville, Va. Sophomore Wallace Campbell and junior Jenny Stevens each finished first for the blue and orange, placing second overall. Campbell completed the 8,000 meter run just two seconds off the meet's winner, Justin Wood of Seton Hall, who completed the course in 25 minutes, and 42 seconds. Stevens finished the 6,000m women's race with a time of 22:36.17. Winning the meet for the women was Frostburg State's Bonnie Axman (21:39.99). Finishing second on the men's side for the Bison and placing fifth overall was junior Matt Forys (26:06.55). The blue and orange then finished three scorers in the seven, eight and nine positions overall, finishing third, fourth and fifth for Bucknell, in junior Chris Norcea (26:07.45), and seniors Kevin Brown (26:09.00) and Kevin Fortkiewicz (26:10.19). Rounding out the Bison's top six and just missing a place among the scorers by less than five seconds, was junior Derrin Pierret, with a time of 26:15.00 (11th overall). On the women's side, the second finisher for the blue and orange was junior Leanna Nastase, who finished just behind Stevens with a time of 22:38.10 (third overall). Sophomore Erin Cranmer-Hart finished two places behind Nastase, for fifth-place (22:47.87). Freshman Gillian Nordquist finished fourth for Bucknell and eleventh overall (23:21.78), while senior Kayla Holloran was the final scorer for the Bison in 13th place (23.238.37).
Junior Rebecca Pierotti rounded out the top-15 of the race and sixth for Bucknell, with a time of 23:45.13. For the men, Millersville came in second overall, with Kutztown in the third place slot and Navy finishing fourth. In the women's race, Kutztown finished second, with host George Washinton finishing third and Millersville in fourth place. Both races included 12 schools.
