Bucknell Women's Cross Country Finishes 9th, Men 14th at IC4A/ECAC Championships

BRONX, N.Y. - Led by Hana Casalnova, Bucknell women's cross country closed the books on the 2011 season with a ninth-place team finish in the University Division at the ECAC Championships at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. The men's squad, with Brian Charland in the lead for the Bison, worked its way to a 12th-place finish in the University Division as well. Bucknell will now turn its attention to indoor track and field season, beginning December 3 with the Bison Opener at Gerahard Fieldhouse. Casalnova was the only Bison to finish in the top 30 on the five-kilometer course in Bronx, N.Y. The sophomore crossed the line in a time of 19:03. Just behind her were fellow sophomores Stephanie Bryan (19:15) in 38th place and Beth Braunegg (19:23) in 49th. As a squad, the Bucknell women were ninth in a field of 22 teams with 228 points. Claiming the team title was Albany with 109 points. Albany also took the individual win as Kathryn Fanning finished in 18:06. The women also competed in the Coaches Race earlier in the morning with Stefanie Spanfeller and Becky Snelson both claiming top-10 finishes. Spanfeller was fourth overall with a time of 19:59, while Snelson was eighth in 20:10. With all the racers in, Bucknell found itself in third place out six teams. La Salle earned the team win with 43 points, compared to 84 for the Bison. After placing 14th at last year's IC4A Championships, the Bucknell men's team moved up the standings into 12th with 308 points. Charland was the top finisher for the Bison with a time of 27:08 over five miles. Chris Applegate (27:30), Tyler Erhard (27:49) and Ryne Carney (28:04) also placed among the top 100.
Binghamton walked away with the team trophy having totaled 35 points. Fordham's Julian Saad was the individual victor in 25:28. TOP BUCKNELL FINISHERS ECAC University Division (5K) ECAC Coaches Race (5K) |
