ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Colgate used a 14-2 run to open the game and a 14-1 run midway through the second half as the top-seeded Bucknell women's basketball team fell to the eighth-seeded Raiders 69-62 in the quarterfinals of the Patriot League Tournament Saturday at Alumni Hall. The Bison, who became the first No. 1 seed in the 17-year history of the Patriot League Tournament to fall to a No. 8 seed, fell to 20-10.

Lauren Schober (Chicago, Ill./Regina Dominican) led Bucknell with 17 points, a team-high six rebounds and equaled Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) for team-high honors with five assists.

Bucknell, which held Colgate scoreless for nearly 15 minutes and jumped out to a 27-0 lead in the second regular-season meeting between the teams two weeks ago, fell behind 14-2 in the first six minutes of Saturday's game.

The Bison were able to climb back and take a 34-32 halftime lead. An 8-0 run, highlighted by five points from Kesha Champion (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River), brought them to within 14-10. A foul line jumper from Schober in transition gave Bucknell its first lead at 22-21, and it led again at 28-27 before opening a three-point cushion (32-29) in the closing minute of the first half.

A 10-1 run, punctuated by six points from Schober, in the opening minutes of the second half helped the Bison take a 44-35 lead, its largest of the contest. However, after 3-pointers were traded, Colgate quickly responded with a 14-1 run for a 52-48 advantage with just over nine minutes to play.

The lead changed four times in the next few minutes as Jacquie Seawright (Olton, Texas/Olton) kept Bucknell in it with a 3-pointer and a pair of 15-foot jumpers.

Champion tied the score with a pair of free throws with 2:39 left, but after that Colgate was 5-for-7 from the free throw line and TaHara Williams hit a big 3-pointer that put the Raiders up 65-61. Bucknell, which was 10 of 15 from the line, struggled late with Seawright missing three consecutive at one point.

Colgate, which lost to Bucknell by an average of 29 points per game in the regular season, was led by 17 points from Williams, who was one of four Raiders in double figures. They shot 46.0 percent from the field and scored a season-high 69 points. They were 9 of 14 from 3-point range as both Williams and Gretchen Polinski made three apiece.

Seawright added 16 points from the Bison, while Patriot League Player of the Year Hope Foster tallied 10, including six in a row at one stretch in the first half.

Bucknell's season is not complete as it earned an automatic berth to the WNIT, which begins in mid-March. Pairings for that tournament will be announced March 12. Colgate (6-24) will face either No. 4 American or No. 5 Navy in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament on Sunday.
