Junior Vicki Quimby Leads Five Women's Basketball Players in Double Figures as the Bison Defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore, 91-62
Nov. 22, 2000
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior forward Vicki Quimby (West Lawn, Pa./Wilson) scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead five Bucknell players in double-figures as the Bison women's basketball team cruised to a 91-62 victory over visiting Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday, November 22. Maryland-Eastern Shore got the game started with a jumper 20 seconds into it, but that was the only lead the Lady Hawks would ever enjoy. Four minutes into the contest, Bucknell opened up an eight point lead, 14-6, behind five points from sophomore Molly Creamer (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) and four from freshman Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional). The Bison would never look back as they built their first half advantage to as many as 18 three different times before carrying a 21 point lead, 45-24, into the locker rooms. In the opening frame, the Orange and Blue held Maryland-Eastern Shore to just seven field goals and forced 13 turnovers. Despite 50.0% (15-30) shooting from the Lady Hawks in the second half, Bucknell's lead never fell below 15. The Bison got 12 points from Quimby in the stanza, in addition to 10 from Almind, to lead Bucknell to the win. Joining Quimby in double-figures was Almind with 18 and Creamer with 17. Junior captain Monique LeBlanc (Cumberland, R.I./Bishop Feehan) and freshman Heidi Helsing (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) both reached double-figures for the second-straight game with 10 points a piece. Quimby's double-double was the 20th of her career.
Bucknell improves to 3-0 on the season and travels to Marist on Tuesday, November 28, for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Red Foxes. Maryland-Eastern Shore falls to 0-2 on the year.
