CANCUN, Mexico - Christina Campion scored 11 of her team-high 13 points in the first half to lead Richmond to a 58-40 victory over Bucknell in women's basketball at the Caribbean Classic, held at the Moon Palace Resort. The Bison, who trailed the entire game, were led by Hope Foster (Washington, D.C./Dunbar), who tallied 13 points and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

Jacquie Seawright (Olton, Texas/Olton) joined Foster in double figures with a season-high 10 points off the bench, including seven in the second half, for Bucknell, which fell to 4-3 on the season and saw its two-game winning streak snapped.

Behind six points from Campion in the first five minutes, Richmond, which broke a four-game losing streak and improved to 2-4 this year, jumped out to a 17-7 lead. Bucknell then put together an 8-0 run that featured a 3-pointer from the right wing by Lauren Schober, a pretty post move that resulted in a baseline hook shot by Foster and a driving layup by Jacquie Seawright where she made the basket and a free throw after a hard foul.

After drawing to within two, the Bison hit a cold spell as they managed just one field goal and six points over the final eight minutes of the first half. Richmond extended its lead out to as many as 15 points at 34-19 following six consecutive points from Danielle Bell and Sarah Williams in the closing minutes of the frame. A pair of free throws by Foster narrowed the halftime deficit to 34-21.

Bucknell attempted to feed the ball to Foster early in the second half and she scored the first basket of the half to bring the Bison to within 11 points. However, they would not draw closer the rest of the game as the Spiders went on a 9-2 run to open up an 18-point lead. The Richmond advantage oscillated between 17 and 20 points over the final 13 minutes of the game as the Spiders built a 20-point cushion on three occasions.

After allowing Richmond to shoot better than 51 percent in the first half, Bucknell's defense clamped down in the second half, limiting the Spiders to 34.5 percent. Overall, Richmond made 43.1 percent from the floor to become the first Bison opponent to shoot better than 40 percent this season. Bucknell connected on 32.6 of its field goals, including 40.0 percent in the second half.

The Bison, who turned the ball over a season-low nine times, struggled at the free throw line and on the boards. They were outrebounded 35-24 as Foster led the way with five rebounds. Foster also paced the team in free throw shooting, making 5 of 6. The rest of the team was just 5 of 13.

In addition to her team-high figures in points and rebounds, Foster, who played all 40 minutes, blocked five shots to increase her season total to 41. She is averaging nearly six blocks per game.

Bucknell's total of 40 points was its fewest since totaling 37 against Albany Dec. 4, 2004.

Nikita Thomas registered a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Richmond. Four of those rebounds were on the offensive end as the Spiders corralled 14 offensive boards as a team. Sarah Williams added 10 points off the bench on 5 of 8 shooting.

Bucknell returns home to begin a two-game homestand Thursday, Nov. 30, against St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. at Sojka Pavilion.
