Bucknell Women's Hoops' Voss Named to Academic All-Patriot League Team
Feb. 28, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women’s basketball’s Rachel Voss (Cincinnati, Ohio/Loveland) was named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team on Tuesday. The junior was voted to the five-person squad with a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in business administration and Spanish. She is also averaging 8.0 points and 4.4 rebounds on the season heading into the Patriot League Tournament. The Academic All-Patriot League Team was added for all sports last season to honor additional student-athletes who excel both on and off the court. The women’s basketball team has five student-athletes to equal the size of the sport’s All-Patriot League first team. Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA and be a starter or a key reserve. Award winners are determined by a vote of the league’s sports information directors who cannot vote for their own athletes. To go along with her high GPA, Voss has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Bucknell Dean’s List multiple times. During the fall semester in 2010, she earned a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and eventually helped the Bison to a No. 2 national ranking on the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. A member of Mortar Board Gamma Beta Chapter, Voss also serves as a teaching assistant for Management 101 classes at Bucknell. In the community, Voss has served as a volunteer with a local Head Start program and RiverWoods Senior Living Center. She has also volunteered her time with the Bucknell women’s basketball team at a local food bank and various events in the Lewisburg area. She has also been active with the squad’s Bison Pals program, which meets weekly with fans with special needs. A member of the 2010 Patriot League All-Rookie Team, Voss has enjoyed one of her best seasons on the court this winter. Against conference opponents, the forward has averaged 9.9 points and 4.7 rebounds, an improvement over her non-conference marks. She scored her 500th career point earlier this season when the Bison took on Army at West Point. Voss has led Bucknell in scoring a team-best seven times this season and reached double-figure points a career-high 11 times.
Voss is the second Bison to be named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team in women’s basketball. She joins 2011 graduate Joyce Novacek, who made the inaugural team last winter. Bucknell will open the Patriot League Tournament on Thursday when it travels to second-seeded Lehigh. Tipoff in Bethlehem, Pa., is set for 7 p.m. The last time the Bison made the trip to Stabler Arena, they came away with the 62-56 victory, ending a 10-game losing streak to the Mountain Hawks.
