LEWISBURG, Pa. - Dan Burt, most recently an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington, and Lauren Rigney, formerly an assistant coach at Smith College, have been added to the Bucknell women's basketball coaching staff, head coach Kathy Fedorjaka has announced.

Burt, who brings six years of experience as an assistant coach at the Division I level, was the recruiting coordinator during his three seasons with the Seahawks. While at UNC Wilmington, Burt spearheaded the development and coordination of an innovative national and international recruiting campaign that resulted in the signing of four Adidas Top-10 Camp participants, one junior college All-American and a four-time Cyprus National High School Player of the Year. His efforts helped lead the Seahawks to a three-year record of 53-33, the best in school history.

At Bucknell, Burt will continue to focus his efforts on recruiting. He will also take part in scouting, player development and fundraising, along with continuing to grow the summer camp program for the Bison.

"I am excited to welcome Dan to the Bucknell basketball family," commented head coach Kathy Fedorjaka. "He comes to us with a great deal of experience at the Division I level and has really developed a strong reputation for his recruiting prowess."

Prior to arriving at UNC Wilmington, Burt was an assistant coach at West Virginia for three seasons. While in Morgantown, he recruited 2004 WNBA draft pick Kate Bulger to play for the Mountaineers. Burt also coached the 2000 Big East Scholar Athlete of the Year and mentored two Big East All-Conference performers.

A native of Washington, Pa., Burt graduated with a bachelor's degree in physical education from West Liberty State College in 1993. While a Hilltopper, Burt was a scholar-athlete award winner as a member of the men's basketball team.

Following graduation, Burt worked as an admissions counselor at Shepherd College in Shepherdstown, W. Va., for five years. He was an assistant coach with the men's team during the 1994-95 season and was also a women's college basketball referee in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Maryland.

Rigney, a 2002 graduate of Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in psychology, joins the Bucknell staff after two years as an assistant coach at Smith College in Northampton, Mass. While with the Pioneers, she was responsible for recruiting, scouting opponents and organizing team strength and conditioning workouts. She also assisted in practice planning and game plan construction.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Rigney was an instructor for undergraduate performance classes in physical conditioning and peak performance the past two years. She also earned her master's degree in exercise and sports studies from Smith.

During the past three summers (2001-2003), Rigney was a coach and instructor for SportsChallenge, a 10-day training program that teaches high school athletes to be the best teammates and leaders they can be. She also served as Assistant Director of Admissions in 2003.

During her undergraduate tenure at Princeton, Rigney was a two-time team captain and four-year letterwinner on the women's basketball team. As a senior, she was honored with the Herbert Hobler Award, given to the team's most valuable player. The Marlborough, Mass., native was also a member of the Princeton Varsity Student-Athlete Advisory Council and was awarded the Edward E. Jones Memorial Prize, a psychology award given for innovative empirical research in a senior thesis.

In filling the third assistant spot, a position that was recently enhanced to full time, Rigney will be responsible for scouting opponents, monitoring academics, community service and on-court player development.

"Lauren played collegiate basketball at Princeton and therefore truly understands the scholar-athlete model," explained Fedorjaka. "She is an eager and capable young coach who has already gained two important years of collegiate coaching experience at Smith."

Bucknell sponsors 26 intercollegiate sports, including 14 women, at the Division I level (I-AA in football). It is a charter member of the Patriot League and has won the league's all-sports championship in 11 of the 14 years it has been contested, including the last seven in a row. Bucknell led the nation with a 100 percent graduation rate in the most recent survey and ranks third in Division I in producing Academic All-Americans.
