Bucknell Crew Takes Two of Four Races Against Delaware

April 3, 2004

SHAMOKIN DAM, Pa. - The Bucknell crew competed at home for the second-straight weekend, racing Delaware on Saturday, April 3. BU's first and second varsity eight's came in first against the Fightin' Blue Hens, while both novice boats suffered defeats to the visitors.

The Bison second varsity eight put together a solid race, taking over the lead halfway through it and never looking back. The boat, consisting of Coxswain-Mary Kellam, stroke-Rebecca Newman, 7-Julie Engel, 6-Lisa Kim, 5-Meredith Kim, 4-Elizabeth Marut, 3-Jennifer Prunoske, 2-Ashley White and bow-Allison DeKnight, crossed the finish line in 6:10, a full 10 seconds ahead of Delaware's crew.

The first varsity eight boat delivered an exciting race, crossing the finish line just one second in front of the Blue Hens' crew. Coxswain-Kyra Harris, stroke-Jill Harrington, 7-Vi Ngo, 6-Lauren Olsen, 5-Amanda Roof, 4-Teal Zeisler, 3-Joan Wendler, 2-Alexis Will and bow-Rachel Trusheim were challenged by Delaware the entire length of the race. When it was finally complete, it was Bucknell's crew coming in first with a time of 5:48, to Delaware's 5:49.

Both novice boats fell behind the Blue Hens', losing by close to 10 seconds in both races.

The wins are the second-straight for the varsity crews, who both defeated George Mason last weekend. The Orange and Blue close out their only homestand of the spring with races against Temple and Buffalo on Saturday, April 10.
