Bison Crew Teams Compete in Unofficial Patriot League Championships

April 30, 2002

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Bucknell men's and women's crew teams fared well Sunday afternoon at the unofficial Patriot League Championships, held at Lake Quinsigamond.

The Bison picked up a pair of gold on the afternoon. The women's novice lightweight eight competed on the varsity level and placed first. That same crew also competed as the women's second novice eight and came out victorious among six crews.

Bucknell's women's varsity four of junior Lisa Baranik, junior Julie Engel, sophomore Rebecca Newman, sophomore Jill Harrington and junior coxswain Nicole Tomlin had their string of four consecutive gold medal-performances broken after finishing second among six boats and behind a strong crew from Lehigh.

Other boats on the water for the Bison were the women's novice four (second out of six), men's varsity four (third out of six) and the women's first novice eight (second out of six).

The Bison return to action on May 5 with the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, contested at the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax, Va.
