Bucknell Women's Crew Represents Well at Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championship

FAIRFAX, Va. - Two of the Bucknell women's crew boats turned in first place finishes for the Bison at the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Championship on Sunday, May 2, 2004. In addition to the gold medal performances from the second varsity eight and the novice eight, the novice four received silver in its race.

Coxswain Rebecca Michaud, Marianne Prabhu, Rachel Goldstein, Susan Shadle and Ashley Kalinske got things started on the right note, turning in the second place finish against eight other teams, crossing the line in a time of 8:01. The novice eight of coxswain Julia Keyser, stroke Christine Drasba, Tabitha Smith, Danielle Monteverde, Jessica Noonan, Jenna Goldstein, Kathryn Wood, Megan Chapin and bow Laura Roberts continued on the successful day with a first place finish in their race. The squad defeated nine other boats to earn the gold, finishing in a time of 7:06.
 

 

The second varsity eight was BU's other gold medal performer, as coxswain Mary Kellam, stroke Rebecca Newman, Meredith Cutting, Lisa Kim, Julie Engel, Elizabeth Marut, Jennifer Prunoske, Ashley White and bow Allison DeKnight defeated four other boats in the regatta with a winning time of 6:57.

Bucknell's varsity eight came up against tough competition, coming in fourth out of five boats in a time of 6:55. The crew consisted of coxswain Kyra Harris, stroke Jill Harrington, Joan Wendler, Lauren Olsen, Vi Ngo, Teal Zeisler, Amanda Roof, Lauren Ewald and bow Rachel Trusheim.

The same eight also competed against Princeton on Saturday, May 1. The Bison crew put together a good race against the five-time national champion, crossing the line in 7:03 to the Tigers' 6:46.

Also competing in the Mid-Atlantic Championships were the varsity pair of Courtney Luzzi and Caitlin Scudder. The duo, racing for the first time as a pair, crossed the line in 9:17 to finish fourth in the four-boat race.

The Orange and Blue compete at the Dad Vail Regatta next Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia, Pa.
