Sept. 29, 2002

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. - On Sunday, Bucknell's women's crew team participated in the King's Head Regatta XVI, on the Schuylkill River. Senior member Julie Engel and assistant coach Katie Davis gave Bucknell high marks.

The women's crew team participated in their first race of the season. In the Women's Club Singles race, Engel placed second for the Bison.

In the Women's Varsity Collegiate Eight event, Bucknell's C Boat placed third out of seven teams. The Bison's C Boat placed behind Lehigh's A and B Boats, but crossed the line in front of Lehigh's C Boat, Susquehanna, Franklin and Marshall and Richard Stockton College.

In the women's championship race, Bucknell's A Boat finished second and the B Boat placed fourth. The Bison fell between the slots of LaSalle's first place A Boat and third place B Boat. Bucknell's A Boat placed four seconds behind LaSalle's A Boat during the race.

Bucknell's assistant coach, Katie Davis, placed first in the Novice Singles and third in the Women's Championship Singles race.

"It was a good first showing for the team," mentioned head coach Steve Kish.

The women's crew team will return to the water next weekend when they host Lehigh on Sunday, Oct. 6 on the Susquehanna River. The time of the race will be announced at a later date.
