Bucknell Women's Crew Competes at Head of the Charles

Oct. 24, 2004

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bucknell women's crew competed at the Head of the Charles regatta Saturday and turned in a solid showing for its second outing of the fall, finishing 47th overall.

The Bison could have finished as high as 40th in the field of 50 had they not incurred a pair of penalties for going outside the buoys. Their time of 14:12.149 before the 40 seconds in penalties would have placed them less than one second behind Union College, which claimed 39th place.

Bucknell's eight consisted of coxswain-Lakshmi Bhagavatula, stroke-Danielle Monteverde, 7-Lauren Olsen, 6-Lisa Kim, 5-Jessica Noonan, 4-Christine Drasba, 3-Laura Roberts, 2-Lauren Ewald, and bow-Rachel Trusheim.

"Novice coxswain Lakshmi Bhagavatula had a great first race at arguably the toughest race course in the world," commented Bucknell head coach Stephen Kish. "Our fall season is usually not indicative of what we will do during the spring season, but we have had some success and hope to carry it over to the spring."

The Bison will be back in action in two weeks when they travel to Fairfax, Va., to compete at the Head of the Occoquan Saturday, Nov. 6.
