Higgs and Ebert Do The Scoring In 2-1 Win Over Monmouth

Scoring starts early for the Orange and Blue

COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY- Bucknell 2, Monmouth 1

LEWISBURG, PA-- The Bucknell field hockey team defeated Monmouth at home in a 2-1 contest on Sunday, September 10. Bucknell continued its winning series against Monmouth with a record of 3-0, and improved their 2000 season record to 2-3.

Bucknell junior Dena Ebert (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) opened up the scoring with 20:34 remaining in the first period. Senior forward Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) finished Bucknell's scoring with an unassisted goal late in the second half.

Despite Monmouth sophomore Gina Chico's goal with 2:11 remaining in the second half, Monmouth fell to Bucknell 2-1. Chico was assisted by Janet Gallo and Marie Uzzo.

Responding to her team's victory, head coach Heather Lewis said, "We played hard in a back-to-back game today. We played very well in making adjustments when we needed to, and we took advantage of the opportunities we had."

The Bison (2-3) open their Patriot League play at Holy Cross next Saturday, September 16, in a 12:00 noon game. Monmouth is now 1-3.
