Bruvik Scores Twice to Push Bucknell Field Hockey Past Lehigh 4-3
Oct. 10, 2009
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) recorded two goals, and Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison) and Christine Weiss (Bethlehem, Pa./Southern Lehigh) added two more to propel the Bucknell field hockey team past Lehigh at Ulrich Field on Saturday afternoon. With the road victory, the Bison (8-4, 2-0) stay atop the Patriot League standings heading into their showdown with American next week. Bucknell went back and forth on the scoreboard with Lehigh (4-7, 1-1) throughout the game despite dominating in shots and penalty corners. The Bison out-shot the Mountain Hawks 23-8 on the day and took double the corners at 14-7. Siegrist benefited from the wealth of shots early in the game. The freshman defender put the first notch on the board for the Bison scoring off her own rebound just 1:33 into the start of play. The goal was the third of the season for Siegrist, who also earned the assist on Bucknell's next goal. Lehigh's Kelsey Zeswitz had tied the contest at one goal apiece in the 16th minute, but Siegrist got a pass through traffic to Bruvik. Bruvik put the ball in the back of the net from right in front of the cage for her second goal of the season. But Bruvik was not done yet. The junior forward's first goal came at the end of the first half, while her second tally came at the beginning of the second frame. Bruvik gave the Bison a two-goal lead off an assist by Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township). There was still nearly an entire half of field hockey left, however, and Lehigh made the most of it. The Mountain Hawks claimed the game's next two scores to tie things up for the second time that afternoon. Morgan Christopher, who tallied the assist on her team's first goal, and Kimberly Eng set the score at 3-3 with nearly 27:00 remaining.
The Bison's game winner came in the 57th minute off one of their many penalty corners. Sarah Ebright (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) put the ball in play and let Raczek and Weiss do the rest. Weiss nabbed her fourth goal of the season and the first game-winning tally of her career. Raczek and Ebright both earned assists on the play, giving Raczek two on the day and Ebright one this season. With two helpers, Raczek is now in sole possession of fourth place on Bucknell's career assists list with 22. The Bison will be back on the field on Tuesday when they travel to Penn State for a 6 p.m. contest in University Park, Pa. They will then return home later in the week to face American on Saturday, Oct. 17 and Georgetown on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Graham Field. |
