Bucknell Falls to Georgetown in Final Regular Season Game
Oct. 28, 2000 COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY - Georgetown 4, Bucknell 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown senior midfielder Jessica Walls scored the game-winning goal as Georgetown defeated Bucknell, 4-2, on Saturday, October 28. The Bison conclude the regular season at 8-10 overall. Georgetown got on the board when sophomore forward Hilary Polk-Williams scored her sixth goal of the season at 18:13. Freshman back Elena Elster scored next. Her 21st goal of the year came at 32:32, when she connected on a penalty corner. Freshman forward Leeanne Rizzo and junior midfielder Aubrey Bruggeman were credited with assists. The Hoyas led 2-0 at halftime. In the second half, Walls scored her first career goal at 40:28. Exactly six minutes later, Bruggeman netted her fourth goal of the season to put the Hoyas up 4-0. Bucknell finally got on the board at 48:31, when junior Meghann Hopping (Ipswich, Mass./Ipswich) converted a penalty corner. Senior Maura Higgs (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) and junior Melissa Maher (Marcy, N.Y./Whitesboro) both had assists on the play. The final goal of the game came at 68:32, as Maher scored for the Bison on a scramble in front of Georgetown's goal. Bucknell's sophomore Sonja Wettergreen (Norwalk, Conn./Brian McMahon) and junior Melissa Rhoads (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) combined for nine saves. Bucknell will participate in the Patriot League tournament on Friday, November 3. The Bison, the number three seed, face #2 Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Cross.
