  • SYRACUSE, N.Y. - One day after beating Colgate in overtime to clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth, the Bucknell field hockey team had a stiff test in No. 5 Syracuse. The Bison fell to the Orange by a 3-1 score Sunday afternoon at Coyne Field, but they also found out they will be the No. 4 seed and face top-seeded and host American in Friday's first round thanks to the Eagles' 3-1 win over Lafayette Sunday.

Freshman Gabby Palumbo (Williamstown, N.J./The Peddie School) netted Bucknell's only goal with 15:03 remaining in the second half on an assist from Ellie Riegel (Darien, Conn./Darien). It was her second career goal and it cut into Syracuse's 3-0 lead.

The Orange, who outshot the Bison 34-2, scored twice in the first half and once more with just under 20 minutes to play. Heather Susek, Kelsey Millman and Stephanie Hussey each scored one goal as Susek and Millman stayed tied for first on the team with 17 goals apiece. Susek also had an assist.

Bison goalie Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) posted 15 saves as she played all 70 minutes.

Syracuse (16-3) posted 12 penalty corners, compared to two for Bucknell (7-11). Two of the Orange's goals came immediately following corners.

The Bison conclude their regular season having played five ranked opponents.

Bucknell will next be in action Friday at American in the first round of the four-team Patriot League Tournament. The championship game will be held Sunday. Game times will be announced this week.
