March 5, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Although its season concluded months ago, Bucknell field hockey added another set of honors to its resume on Monday as it was named a National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I National Academic Team. Twelve Bison were also recognized with a selection to the National Academic Squad, including four-time honorees Kate Bowen (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), Marci Richard (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley), Mallory Smith (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary). To be named to the National Academic Team, a squad must record a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher. Bucknell was one of 65 teams to be recognized nationally. Student-athletes named to the National Academic Squad must earn a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Bucknell’s quartet of four-time honorees ranks second in the country. Each of the Bison’s three Academic All-Patriot League Team selections, including Richard, Smith and Tayler Siegrist (Madison, N.J./Madison), were also included on the list. Bucknell finished the 2011 season 8-12 overall and 3-2 in the Patriot League. The Bison upset No. 1 American in the conference semifinals to advance to their second Patriot League Championship in four years. 2011 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad
