National Search Begins for Successor

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Heather Lewis announced her resignation as Bucknell's head field hockey coach on Wednesday. A national search is underway to identify her successor.

The longest-tenured coach in program history, Lewis compiled a 128-161-2 record in 16 seasons at Bucknell. Lewis also served as Bucknell's head women's lacrosse coach from 1993-96. In 1999 she was promoted to assistant athletics director for compliance services, and in 2000 she took on the role of associate athletics director and senior woman administrator before refocusing on coaching full-time after the 2001 season.

The former president of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA), Lewis coached an All-American, an Academic All-American, 22 all-region players, 56 All-Patriot League honorees and four Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the Year. A total of 128 of her Bucknell field hockey student-athletes have been named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad.

"I would like to thank Heather Lewis for her 16 years of service to Bucknell Athletics," said director of athletics and recreation John Hardt. "Throughout her tenure here Heather was passionate about coaching and she devoted particular attention to the scholar-athlete ideals in which Bucknell takes great pride."

The Bucknell field hockey team finished 8-9 overall and 1-4 in the Patriot League in 2007. All but one starter returns next season.
