Bucknell Field Hockey Plays Its 600th Game on Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell field hockey team will play Siena at Graham Field, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 12 p.m. This will be the 600th game in the history of Bucknell's field hockey program, and the Bison have accumulated a record of 269-303-27 since the team began play in 1973. The Bison (5-3) enter the game with a 3-1 home record this year, while the Saints (0-6) are seeking their first win of the season. Fans are encouraged to wear orange to Saturday's contest, as it has been designated an Orange Crush game. This game will also be available to follow online via GameTracker or the live video broadcast supplied by Bison Vision.
Bucknell last played on Wednesday, shutting out Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-0, at Graham Field. Goalkeeper Sarah Zargarpour (North Vancouver, Canada/Handsworth Secondary) notched the shutout in her first career start for the Bison, while six different players tallied goals for the squad. Trina Boyer (Macungie, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) set the tone early for Bucknell, scoring a goal just slightly more than three minutes into the game, and added an assist on a goal by Kelly Bruvik (Skillman, N.J./Stuart Country Day) to start the second half. The Bison coaching staff chose Boyer as its player of the game for her play.
Amanda Faust (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) leads Bucknell and is second in the Patriot League in scoring with 16 points (through games played on Sept. 24). Her six goals lead the team and place her in a tie for second in the league, while Faust's four assists have given her sole possession of Bucknell's all-time assist record with 28. Morgan Kauffman (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) leads the league in assists with seven and is sixth in the league in points (11).
Katie Ruiz (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) is the third Bucknell player to rank in the league's top 10 in scoring, as she is tied for eighth with nine points. Bison forward Corinne Raczek (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township), is tied for second in the league in assists, with five.
Goalkeeper Jessie Atieh (North Caldwell, N.J./West Essex) ranks second in the Patriot League in save percentage (.755), third in goals against average (2.00) and fourth in saves (40).
This game marks the third time this season that Siena has played a Patriot League school. The Saints their season-opener, 5-1, at Colgate, and most recently fell 3-1 in a home match against Holy Cross. Freshman Sarah Szewczyk leads Siena in scoring, despite missing their first three games due to injury. She has scored two goals this year, and was named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday. Kristin McGorty is second on the Saints in scoring, with three points so far this year.
Seniors Jennifer Tesak and Renne Clavette have split time in goal for Siena, with Clavette seeing the majority of the playing time. They have combined for a .750 save percentage and a 3.50 goals against average.
Following Saturday's game, Bucknell will be off until Tuesday, September 30, when it will play Saint Joseph's in Philadelphia, Pa, at 1 p.m. That is the last game for the Bison prior to the start of Patriot League competition. The Orange and Blue will travel to Easton, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 4, to play Lafayette, in their conference opener.
