Oct. 8, 2012
LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell field hockey's Erica Perrine (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) was selected the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the third time this season and Kayla Sullivan (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater) nabbed her second straight Rookie of the Week citation from the league, headlining the list of award winners on Monday. Completing the trio was a Bison Athlete of the Week honor for Kelsey Mucelli (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown Area), who added to Bucknell's balanced effort that resulted in an undefeated weekend of play at Holy Cross and Harvard.
Perrine registered her second shutout of the season against the Crusaders on Saturday, ensuring Bucknell a 4-0 victory in Worcester, Mass. The junior keeper needed to make just one save to secure her fourth career shutout, which is tied for 10th in program history. Just one day later, Perrine allowed a single goal to Harvard and made seven saves.
With the pair of wins, Perrine now has a season record of 8-6. The eight single-season wins ties her for ninth-most at Bucknell and improves her career victories total to 16, a number that is also tied for ninth in program history.
Perrine now has three Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week citations this season and five in her career. She is tied with Lafayette's Jessica Deutsch for the most this fall.
Sullivan became another repeat award winner on Monday with her Rookie of the Week certificate. Just one week after tallying her first career goals and earning her first nod as the league's top rookie last Monday, Sullivan recorded her first-ever assist on a goal by Leigh Hillman (Dallas, Pa./Lake Lehman) in the Bison's 3-1 win at Harvard.
Also being recognized for her assist totals was Mucelli. The sophomore finished with three helpers last weekend, including two against Harvard, while serving as the stopper on Bucknell's penalty corner unit. Mucelli now has a career-best nine assists this season, a total that moves her into a tie for ninth place in the program record books.
Mucelli's and Sullivan's play as midfielders also proved noteworthy as they helped the Bison limit its most recent opponents to just one goal on 14 shots and six penalty corners. Bucknell did not give up a corner to Holy Cross on Saturday. The Bison are now outscoring Patriot League foes 11-0, a run that includes a 7-0 win over Colgate on Sept. 29 at Graham Field.
Monday marks the first time Mucelli has been named the Bison Athlete of the Week. She is the second field hockey player to be recognized this season, joining Rachel Misko (Morristown, N.J./Madison), who was honored on Sept. 9.
Bucknell will have its Patriot League shutout streak tested on Saturday when it returns to the field at Lafayette. The Leopards were ranked 13th in the Oct. 2 Penn Monto/NFHCA National Division I Coaches Poll and are attempting to defend their Patriot League Championship title.
