Bucknell's Lindsey Gentel Selected to Play in NFHCA Senior All-Star Game
Oct. 27, 2003 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior defender Lindsey Gentel was selected as one of 47 players in all of NCAA Division I to participate in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association all-star game held on November 22 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, Mass. Gentel was one of 17 players selected to the "south" squad, plus two goalkeepers and four alternates. She is one of just four Patriot League athletes to make the all-star roster, including Jennifer Stone of Lafayette and Laura Miller and Melissa Snyder of American. "This is wonderful for Lindsey. She has certainly worked hard over her four years and this selection recognizes that dedication. It's also wonderful for Bucknell to be represented in this game, and knowing Lindsey, she would be the first to say she wouldn't have been selected had it not been for her teammates, especially senior co-captain Kate Ruda," Bucknell Head Coach Heather Lewis said. With Gentel as co-captain, the Bison defense has surrendered just 19 goals in 14 games. By comparison, through 14 games last year, the Bison allowed 34 goals. Gentel also has four assists this season.
Gentel and her teammates will be back on the field tomorrow night at Towson in Maryland, and will close out the Patriot League regular season at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against first-place American. The Bison are 8-6, 3-2 in the Patriot League and have clinched a playoff berth. Bucknell will face either Holy Cross or American in the first round of the Patriot League tournament on Friday, Nov. 7 at Worcester, Mass.
