Bucknell Women's Golf in Sixth After First Round of Big South Championship

McCALLA, Ala. - The Bucknell women's golf team shot a solid 322 and stands in sixth place after the opening day of the PUPS/PDPS Big South Championship at Bent Brook Golf Course on Monday. Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) led the squad with a 4-over-par 76, and she is tied for eighth individually with two more rounds still to come.

Tournament favorite Birmingham Southern shot 301 to take a three-stroke lead on Winthrop. Coastal Carolina is in third place at 307, followed by High Point at 309, Radford at 317, Bucknell at 322, Charleston Southern at 332 and Holy Cross at 367.

Loughney, who last year became the first Bucknell player to earn All-Big South honors, shot 36 on the back nine and is tied with Grace Franceschelli of Radford and Amy Maness of Coastal Carolina.

Also for Bucknell, Teri Schlang (Albany, N.Y./Stratton Mountain School) shot 80, Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) carded an 82, Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) shot 84 and Kathryn Batchelor (Trenton, N.J./Princeton Day School) finished with an 87.

Winthrop's Erin White was the only player in the field to break par, finishing in 2-under 70. Kate O'Sullivan of High Point is at even par, two shots back.

Play resumes with the second round on Tuesday morning.
