April 13, 2005 NINETY-SIX, S.C. - In one of the top individual performances in Bucknell women's golf history, freshman Amy Loughney carded another 76 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for fifth place at the PUPS Big South Championship at The Patriot at Grand Harbor. Bucknell also placed fifth as a team, its highest finish in three seasons as an associate member of the conference. Bucknell entered the final round in fifth place and maintained that position with a team score of 331. The Bison had finished sixth in each of its first two Big South Championship appearances. Buoyed by a school-record 315 in the first round, their 54-hole score of 970 is its best at the event by 25 strokes. Loughney shot 77-76-76 for a 54-hole composite of 229, the best in school history. That placed her in a tie for fifth place, just two shots out of second, and helped her become the first Bison player to earn All-Big South honors. Also for the Bison on Wednesday, freshman Kristen Phalen couldn't match her pair of 77s from the first two rounds, shooting 90 to finish in a tie for 22nd place. Teri Schlang shot 83 and placed 24th with a tournament score of 245, one behind Phalen. Senior Jaime Hays shot 85 in her final collegiate round and finished 31st at 257. One shot back in 32nd place was freshman Kathryn Batchelor, who shot 87 Wednesday. Coastal Carolina came from three shots down at the start of the day and passed Birmingham Southern for the team title. The Chanticleers shot 307 (906 oveall) to win by eight strokes. High Point was third at 931, followed by Winthrop (956), Bucknell, Radford (990), Charleston Southern (995) and Holy Cross (1144).
