Bucknell Women's Golf in Fifth After Day 1 of Big South Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Freshman Katie Jurenovich (Warren, Ohio/Howland) opened with a 78 in her first Big South Championship appearance, but Bucknell shot 330 as a team and stands in fifth place with two rounds yet to come.

Emily Chiodo (Strasburg, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) carded a 79 for the the Bison. Kristen Phalen (Duxbury, Mass./Tabor Academy) shot 86, Deirdre Moran (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) shot 87, and Amy Loughney (Macungie, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) had a tough first nine and finished with 88.

Led by Olivia Higgins' 1-over-par 73, the low round of the day, Charleston Southern shot 305 and grabbed an early eight-shot lead over Coastal Carolina. Winthrop is third at 317, followed by Radford (326), Bucknell, High Point (335) and Holy Cross (358). Presbyterian, a future Big South member, is also competing this week, but its scores do not count. Presbyterian opened with a 366.

Round two begins Tuesday morning.
