Bucknell Women's Golf Ties for Fourth at Own Tourney

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Backed by a top-10 finish from freshman Kristen Phalen, the Bucknell women's golf team finished in a tie for fourth place at its own Bucknell Fall Classic, which wrapped up Sunday at a damp and chilly Bucknell Golf Club. Morning rain showers and temperatures only in the mid-40s challenged a field of 17 teams, and in the end it was St. John's storming to a 27-stroke victory over runner-up Saint Francis (Pa.). The Red Storm shot 316 on Sunday, up 11 shots from their first-round total, and finished at 621. Saint Francis finished at 648, followed by Harvard at 649 and Bucknell and Brown at 669. The Bison shot 331 in the opening round and stood in fifth place before making up 10 strokes on Brown with a 338 on Sunday. Fellow Big South foe Radford was sixth at 672, followed by Youngstown State (674), Dartmouth (680), Penn (691) and Albany (691). Phalen backed up an opening-round 78 with a team-low 83 on Sunday. She finished in a four-way tie for ninth place at 161. Katie Loncke of Harvard won the individual title at 151 (76-75), two shots better than first-round leader Brittany Lambertson of St. John's (75-78). Also for Bucknell, Teri Schlang (83-85) and Meredith Kalman (82-86) both tied for 20th place at 168. Amy Loughney shot 88-84 and tied for 35th, and Emily Chiodo shot 90-98 and tied for 67th. Bucknell, playing its fall-season finale, also entered a second fivesome. That group finished in 15th place with a 36-hole composite of 735 (379-356). Jaime Hays (91-89), Carolyn Clarkin (92-89) and Kathryn Batchelor (95-88) all shot in the 80s on Sunday. Rachel Adika (101-90) and Caitlyn Sullivan (102-94) also improved their scores in round two.
