LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell's Jess Hetrich (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall H.S.), a senior on the women's golf team, was named to the Big South All-Academic Team this week as Hetrich and the Bison played in their first championship tournament in their new conference.

An accounting major with a 3.33 cumulative grade-point average, Hetrich led Bucknell with a spring scoring average of 83.0, and she ranked second on the team with an average of 83.0 over the fall and spring seasons.

Hetrich tied for 24th at the Big South Championship, which wrapped up on Tuesday at Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, N.C. She shot rounds of 81, 88 and 82 to help Bucknell to a sixth-place finish. The Bison joined the Big South this past December as an associate member in the sport of women's golf.

Bucknell's team captain in 2002-03, Hetrich led the Bison in scoring average (81.1) as a junior and was named to the Division I All-Independent Second Team. Her top finish this season was 12th at the Bucknell Spring Classic. She won that event in 2002, becoming the first and only tournament medallist in the five-year history of the Bucknell women's golf program. Hetrich lowered her scoring average nearly eight strokes from her freshman campaign, when she was a key member of Bucknell's first women's golf recruiting class.

A Dean's List student who will work for PriceWaterhouseCoopers in Harrisburg, Pa., after graduation this May, Hetrich served as vice president for finance for the Delta, Delta, Delta sorority. She serves as a head resident at Bucknell, and organized the golf team's participation in the "Light the Night" walk, which raises money and awareness for leukemia and lymphoma research.

Joining Hetrich on the All-Academic Team were Julie St. Onge of Charleston Southern, Morgan O'Banion of Coastal Carolina, Katie Knoepffler of Elon, Sarah Hollowell of Birmingham-Southern, Jennifer Driscoll of Holy Cross, Yunuen Snachez of UNC Wilmington, Jeanine Hall of Winthrop and Laura Terebey of Radford. Terebey was named the Big South Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete.
