Bucknell Women's Golf Team to Face Challenging Fall Schedule
May 19, 2005 Bucknell Women's Golf 2005 Fall Schedule LEWISBURG, Pa. - Buoyed by a record-setting showing at the PUPS Big South Championship to close out the 2004-05 season, the Bucknell women's golf team has received first-time invitations to compete in two premier events this fall. Adding to an already challenging schedule, the Bison will open the 2005 fall season at the Notre Dame Invitational, and they will close the fall at the Pat Bradley Invitational at the famed Doral Resort and Spa in Miami, Fla. Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Kevin Jamieson, Bucknell finished in fifth place at the Big South Championship last month. They set school scoring records for 18 (315), 36 (639) and 54 holes (970) in the process, despite entering a lineup featuring three freshmen and a sophomore. The Bison also crowned their first-ever All-Big South performer in freshman Amy Loughney, who shot 77-76-76 to finish in a tie for fifth place. "Our schedule is certainly a reflection of the direction this program is headed, and more importantly it's a reflection of where we are right now," said Jamieson. "We have been a well-respected program in the Northeast for a several years, but now we are finally starting to earn some respect outside our region. Some of the scores we posted this spring I think opened quite a few eyes." Princeton is the defending champion at the Pat Bradley Invitational, which is hosted by Florida International and named in honor of the Hall of Fame LPGA golfer. Last year's field also included the likes of Miami (Fla.), Central Florida, Middle Tennessee State and Memphis. The Blue Monster Course at Doral is one of the most famous tracks in the nation and plays host to the PGA Tour's Ford Championship at Doral, which was won this past March by Tiger Woods. The Notre Dame Invitational is played at the highly regarded Warren Golf Course in South Bend, Ind. Iowa State captured the 2004 event by five strokes over Washington State. Other notables in the field included Iowa, Illinois and Western Michigan. Between the Notre Dame and FIU events, the Bison will compete in invitationals at Princeton, Yale and Penn State, and they will host their annual Bucknell Bison Invitational Oct. 8-9 at Bucknell Golf Club. "These tournaments all have exceptionally strong fields, the toughest we have ever faced, but I expect to be able to compete and I know the players believe they can," said Jamieson. "We got better all spring long, and I know the players were mad when the season ended because they felt like they were starting to take off."
