Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Pick Up First Win of Season, 12-9, Against Wagner
March 10, 2003
DENVER, Colo. - Junior Amy Hasler scored four goals and added an assist, as the Bucknell women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season with a 12-9 victory over Wagner on Monday, March 10, 2003. The Bison were playing the game at the University of Denver while on a spring break trip to Colorado. The Orange and Blue found themselves in a 2-0 hole early in the game, before scoring four of the next five goals to take a 4-3 lead with 15:06 left in the half. Junior Laura Nuss scored twice during the stretch, while senior Suzanne Raffaele and freshman Emily Burman tallied once each. The Seahawks regained the lead with three-straight goals of their own within a six minute period, before the Bison cut it to 6-5 at halftime on a Hasler score with 3:16 to go until the break. Bucknell carried the momentum into the second stanza, scoring three in a row to open the frame. Holding an 8-6 lead, BU allowed Wagner to get within one on a Kelly McVeigh goal with 17:13 left in the contest. Junior Meredith Wright responded with her first tally of the game, taking a pass from sophomore Amy Lee less than two minutes later, and Hasler followed with her second score, assisted by sophomore Ellen Kurkowski, to push the Bison lead back to 10-7. Wagner struck again with 10:38 left in the game, but that was as close as the Seahawks would get, as Hasler added two more goals before the game was over. After a Wagner goal with 6:16 to play made the score 12-9, both defenses went to work with neither team scoring the rest of the way.
Senior Nicole Kallis was solid in goal for Bucknell, recording 15 saves.
Bucknell is 1-1 overall. The Orange and Blue face Denver at 5:00 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 11, 2003. |
