Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Jennifer Stone and Erin Gallagher combined for seven goals and Lafayette rallied from a three-goal halftime deficit to defeat Bucknell 8-7 in a Patriot League women's lacrosse game Saturday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

Amy Hasler scored twice and Meredith Wright had a goal and three assists for the Bison, but Lafayette controlled the ball for most of the second half, outscoring Bucknell 6-2 over the final 30 minutes.

Bucknell fell to 1-4 (0-2 Patriot League) on the season, while Lafayette, the defending Patriot League champions, improved to 1-7, 1-1, and improved to 25-0 all-time against the Bison. Each of the last three decisions have all come by a single goal.

Bison goalie Nicole Kallis made 13 saves. Her counterpart, Tracey Williams, stopped six shots, including two huge saves at close range in the final 2:10. With the Bison looking for the equalizer, Elizabeth Schuster broke in alone on the crease but Williams made a nice stick save. After Laura Nuss forced a turnover at midfield to give Bucknell a final possession, Williams stopped Nuss' shot from seven yards out with 20 seconds remaining.

Bucknell started quickly, with Wright, Hasler and Victoria Field scoring in a five-minute span for a 3-0 lead. Gallagher put the Leopards on the board with 15:39 remaining in the opening half, but Hasler answered quickly to make it 4-1. Leading 4-2 and holding for a final possession, Nuss finished a nice feed from Andrea Paraud with eight seconds showing to make it 5-2 at intermission.

Lafayette stormed back in the second stanza, jump-started by Stone's goal just 1:08 into the half. Bucknell's Suzanne Raffaele just trickled a shot across the goal line 1:12 later to regain the three-goal edge, but Gallagher, Stone and Katie Layng scored in succession to knot the contest at 6-all.

With just under 18 minutes remaining Hasler drew a red card, but her replacement, Cora Preston, finshed a feed from Wright and put Bucknell back in front with 12:47 left.

Lafayette, which scored four times on free-position shots, scored the tying and go-ahead goals on two such opportunities. First it was Gallagher with 14:18 remaining, then just 32 seconds later Stone potted the game-winner with a shot over Kallis' left shoulder.

Lafayette outshot Bucknell 17-6 in the second half and 28-16 for the game. The Leopards controlled 12 of the game's 17 draws, including 7 of 9 in the second half.

Bucknell returns to action next Saturday, hosting Holy Cross at noon.
