Women's Lacrosse Team Gets Back on the Winning Track

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's lacrosse team got back on the winning side with a 9-6 win over visiting Niagara University on Sunday, April 1. Niagara got on the board first, and actually held a 2-1 lead after a score at the 22:41 mark of the opening half, before the Bison reeled off five unanswered goals over an eight minute period to build a 6-2 lead. Senior Ashley Evans (Millersville, Md./Severna Park) and sophomore Suzanne Raffaele (Springfield, Pa./Archmere Academy) both had two goals each during the stretch, while Raffaele added two assists. The Purple Eagles added one more score with 9:45 left in the half to create the halftime margin in BU's favor, 6-3. Niagara came out firing in the second half, again scoring first on a goal at the 23:19 mark of the stanza to cut the lead to 6-4, before a Bison goal by Raffaele, her fourth of the game, at 18:42 pushed the cushion back to three goals, 7-4. The Purple Eagles made things interesting, tallying two unanswered goals, the last coming with 6:52 remaining in the game, to get within one, 7-6. The Orange and Blue secured the victory with two more goals in the last five minutes to capture the 9-6 victory. Bucknell improves to 3-6 overall and will travel to Monmouth on Wednesday, April 4, for a 3:30 p.m. contest. Niagara falls to 2-5 overall.
