April 2, 2005
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Bucknell women's lacrosse team dropped its first Patriot League contest of the season, falling 14-4 to Colgate on Saturday at rainy Tyler's Field. Emily Burman scored two goals for the Bison, who fell to 3-8 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League. Defending conference champion Colgate, led by Katie McVeigh's four goals, improved to 8-4, 3-0. Kelly Winning and Amanda Bradshaw scored three times each and Tara Casey tallied twice for the Raiders, who sprinted to a 7-1 halftime lead. Burman's goal six minutes into the contest brought the Bison within 2-1 after Colgate got off to a quick start, but McVeigh and Jess Van der Meulen scored just 26 seconds apart to make it 4-1. Bradshaw scored twice and McVeigh once in the final 15 minutes of the half. Bucknell potted two of the first three goals of the second half, the latter on Elizabeth Whipple's feed to Burman, to pull within 8-3, but Colgate scored the next five in a row to take control. Katie Edge and Lauren Kremer also scored goals for the Bison, who were coming off a victory over Harvard on Wednesday. Lizzy McDaniel made nine saves for the Bison, who were outshot 30-17. Bucknell returns to action on Wednesday with a non-conference home game against LeMoyne. Game time is 4 p.m. at Graham Field.
