Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Meredith Wright scored once and handed out six assists for a hand in seven of Bucknell's 18 goals on Wednesday, as the Bison women's lacrosse team defeated visiting St. Francis (Pa.), 18-5, on April 9. In a game that was moved to Lewisburg from Loretto because of unplayable field conditions at St. Francis, the Orange and Blue jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never looked back.

Junior Amy Hasler got the Bucknell offense going with a goal from senior Suzanne Raffaele with just 47 seconds gone in the game. The Bison proceeded to rattle off eight unanswered, finding the back of the net on their first six shots, to build the 9-0 lead. Also scoring once during the stretch was sophomore Andrea Paraud, Raffaele, Wright, junior Elizabeth Schuster and freshman Tracy Ryan. Junior Laura Nuss tallied three times during the scoring outburst.

The Red Flash broke up the shutout when Leslie Perreault finished the first half scoring with a nifty backhanded goal with 3:17 to play.

St. Francis carried the momentum into the second half, tallying first with a minute and a half gone. Rachel Farrow took a pass from Megan McNamara to bring the visitors within 9-2.

The Bison responded with six more unanswered over a 15 minute span to put the game out of reach at 15-2. Paraud started the spurt with her second of the day. Wright found Raffaele for the next two, before dishing off to Schuster for her second goal of the game and season. Freshman Emily Burman added an unassisted goal, and Hasler capped the run with a score assisted by Wright with 12:05 to play.

St. Francis got three of those goals back, starting with Marissa Lynn's unassisted score with 8:50 to go. Lynn scored her second of the game on a free position shot 1:27 later, before Farrow tallied her second of the day with 3:48 left in the game. That was as much as the Red Flash could muster, however, and the Orange and Blue scored three more times in the final 2:33 for the final score of 18-5.

Sophomore Merryl Geisse scored the first goal of her career for BU with 2:33 to play for the 16-5 lead. Freshman Victoria Field made it 17-5 with 56 seconds remaining, and junior Laura Seiboth beat the clock with her first score of the year with one tick left.

Freshman Mary-Elizabeth McDaniel made her first career start in goal, stopping two shots. Annie Sidorenko made saves on six of Bucknell's 29 shots.

The Bison improve to 5-5 overall and will travel to Colgate for an important Patriot League game on Saturday, April 12 at 12:00 p.m. St. Francis (Pa.) falls to 0-6 on the year.
