Bucknell Women's Lax Ends Season with 17-3 Patriot League Semifinal Loss to American
May 1, 2004
HAMILTON, N.Y. - The third-seeded Bucknell women's lacrosse team fell to second-seeded American 17-3 in a Patriot League Tournament semifinal match on Saturday afternoon, falling short of last year's achievement of reaching the league final. The Bison finish their season at 8-7, though, marking the fourth winning year in the 27-season history of the varsity program. Moriah Linnell led all scorers with six goals, while American (8-8) led in shots, 34-10, and ground balls, 25-16. Each team controlled 11 draws, while Bucknell had seven saves to three for American. American built a 5-0 lead in the first 16 minutes of the opening half. Bucknell's first goal came from Emily Burman with 13:40 to play in the first half. Andrea Paraud and Amy Hasler put Bucknell within two at 5-3, scoring within a minute of each other just inside the 10-minute mark. Both teams went scoreless for the last 8:37 of the half, as the Eagles entered halftime with a two-goal margin. But Hasler's goal would be the last Bucknell would score, as the Bison were blanked for the last 38:37 of the game. Bucknell's three previous winning seasons were in 1984 (9-6), 1997 (13-3) and 1998 (10-5). American advances to face top seed Colgate in the league final, as the Raiders were a 12-9 winner over fourth-seeded Lafayette.
