Bison Women's Lacrosse Hosts Robert Morris Sunday
Feb. 26, 2011
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- Coming off a record-setting offensive performance last week against Howard, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team returns to the field Sunday, taking on Robert Morris at noon at Graham Field. The Bison are 1-1 after the 24-5 blitzing of Howard, while the Colonials will be making their 2011 debut.
Bucknell and Robert Morris have met in each of the last four seasons, with both teams winning twice. In 2007 Robert Morris won 9-8 on a shot from just inside midfield as time expired. Bucknell bounced back and won 15-14 on the road in 2008 and 9-7 at home in 2009. Last season the Colonials prevailed 10-8 in Coraopolis, despite three goals and an assist from Julia Braun. Courtney Sicinski had four goals to lead Robert Morris.
The Colonials were picked fourth in the 10-team Northeast Conference preseason poll, behind Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart and Monmouth.
The Bison have already played once at home, falling to St. Bonaventure 14-10 in the season opener on Feb. 13. Last week in Washington, D.C., Bucknell broke school records for goals in a game and margin of victory against Howard.
Bucknell's top goal-producer through two games is freshman Ali Carey (9-1-10). Carey had five goals against St. Bonaventure in her collegiate debut, then tallied four goals and an assist against Howard.
Senior Julia Braun (7-2-9), who netted a career-high six goals in the Howard win, along with freshmen Molly Ford (2-7-9) and Katelyn Miller (5-3-8) have also piled up the points so far. Miller leads the team in draw controls (10) and ground balls (6) from her midfield position. Sophomore Madison Hurwitz (5-0-5) and freshman Lindsey Ferro (3-2-5) both have five points.
Senior goalie Alyssa DeLorenz has made 13 saves while conceding 18 goals so far. Freshman Emily Fask finished up against Howard in her collegiate debut.
After the Robert Morris game, the Bison have two tough ones in a row on the road, at Penn State and Drexel next week. Then a three-game homestand begins on March 9 against Saint Francis (Pa.).
