Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Team Picked Fifth in Patriot League Preseason Poll
March 3, 2003 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell tallied 29 points to finish fifth in a preseason poll of Patriot League coaches and sports information directors' for the 2003 women's lacrosse season. The Bison, who return eight starters from a year ago, finished the 2002 season with a 6-9 overall record and a conference mark of 1-5. Lafayette, the 2002 champion and perennial powerhouse, picked up six first-place votes and 62 points to take the top spot in the poll. Last year's conference runner up, American, collected three first-place votes and tallied 59 points to earn second in the poll. Colgate, which finished fourth in the PL last season, came in ahead of last year's third place squad Villanova, tallying 54 points and three first place votes. The Wildcats picked up two first place nods and 33 points in expectation of challenging for the title. Holy Cross, which came in just behind the Bison, was picked to finish sixth in the league this year with 24 points. The Crusaders, who posted a 6-12 overall record last season, are followed by Lehigh with 13 points for seventh place.
The 2003 Patriot League Championship will be held April 26-27 on the campus of the highest seed at the conclusion of regular season play.
