Donohue, DeLorenz Earn Patriot League Women's Lax Player of Week Honors
March 31, 2008
LEWISBURG, Pa. - On the heels of its most successful week in recent years, the Bucknell women's lacrosse team claimed a pair of Patriot League Player of the Week nods on Monday, as sophomore attack Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) was picked as the offensive player of the week and freshman Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) earned goalie of the week honors. The Bison won three road games in a five-day span last week, while logging nearly 1,200 bus miles in the process. Last Tuesday Bucknell rolled to a 16-10 victory at La Salle. On Friday night the Bison pulled off a stunning come-from-behind win against an Ohio State team that was ranked in the top 20 just a week earlier. And Sunday they capped off the road trip with a 15-14 victory at Robert Morris. Donohue continued her 2008 scoring spree with 18 points in the three games. She had three goals and five assists for eight points in the Ohio State win; four goals and three assists for seven points in the victory over Robert Morris; and two goals and one assist for three points against La Salle. With 41 points in eight games, Donohue ranks second in the Patriot League scoring race, and she leads the league in assists at 2.38 per game. DeLorenz registered double-digit save totals in all three victories, including a career-high 16 against La Salle. She also had 10 stops against Ohio State, including a big one late in the game to preserve Bucknell's one-goal lead, and she stopped 14 shots in the one-goal victory over Robert Morris. DeLorenz has a .445 save percentage and 12.62 goals-against average in her first year with the Bison. Now 5-3 on the season, Bucknell puts its three-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday night at home against Drexel at 6 p.m.
