Bucknell Women's Lacrosse Players and Team Ranked Nationally
March 28, 2002 LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior goalkeeper Nicole Kallis, senior midfielder Melissa Montefusco and junior attack Suzanne Raffaele were all ranked nationally in the first release of the 2002 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Statistics, updated March 24, 2002. In addition, the Bison squad appeared among the nation's leaders in three categories. Kallis finds herself as the top goalie in the country in save percentage, boasting a .644 save percentage through eight games. The goalkeeper is also sixth in the nation in goals against average, leading the Patriot League with a 7.25 GAA. Montefusco is ranked nationally in two categories. The co-captain is 14th in the country with 3.50 ground balls per game. On the offensive end, Montefusco is tied for 19th with 1.38 assists per game, leading the team with 11 assists through eight games. Raffaele returned from knee surgery in the off-season and has jumped right back into her scoring form, standing in a tie for 22nd in the nation with 2.63 goals per game. With 21 goals through the first eight games, Raffaele has scored as many as five in a contest this season. As a team, the Bucknell squad holds the countries fifth-best scoring defense, allowing only 7.25 goals per game. The Bison are also getting it done on offense, outscoring opponents by an average of 1.75 goals per game for the 10th highest scoring margin in the nation. The Orange and Blue also rank 18th nationally with 11.13 caused turnovers each time out.
Bucknell is currently 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League. The Bison travel to Niagara for a non-conference game on Saturday, March 30.
