Bucknell Women's Soccer Falls to Lehigh, 1-0

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell fell to Lehigh 1-0, in Patriot League women's soccer action on Tuesday evening at home on the Varsity Soccer Field. The loss dropped the Bison to 7-7-0 on the year with a 1-2-0 mark in the Patriot League, while the victory moved the Mountain Hawks to 3-0-0 in league play, 11-1-1 overall. In the 18th minute, sophomore Krista Lee Gentile (Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) narrowly missed putting Bucknell out in front, 1-0, as she received the ball off a corner and fired a shot from point blank range, but Lehigh netminder Julie Kafka made the lone save of the first half to preserve the scoreless deadlock. At the 65:03 mark, Christin Johnson netted the lone goal of the contest. Johnson collected a pass from Gina Lewandowski and hooked a shot from the far right side high over the shoulder of goalkeeper Katie Dry (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 advantage. The Bison had several opportunities to even the score in the second half, however, were unable to convert. Bucknell's best scoring chance in the period came at 66:58 when senior Kerry Fitz-Patrick (Washington, D.C./Stone Ridge Country Day) found Leslie Schulze in front of the Lehigh net, but the ball managed to trickle across the goal line and went just wide. The Mountain Hawks outshot the Bison, 10-9, while Bucknell held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks. Dry made five saves for the Bison and Kafka turned aside four shots for Lehigh. Fouls were 11-7 against the Mountain Hawks.
Bucknell returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, when the team will travel to Washington, D.C., for a Patriot League match against American beginning at 1 p.m.
