Bucknell Women's Soccer Clinches Second Straight Patriot League Regular Season Title with 1-1 Draw Against American

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Bucknell women's soccer team clinched at least a share of the Patriot League regular season title for a second straight year, playing to a 1-1 draw with American on Saturday afternoon to close out the regular season. The Bison, who will host the Patriot League Tournament next weekend as the No. 1 seed, moved to 10-7-1 overall with the tie and 5-1-1 in league play, while the Eagles are now 10-5-3 overall and finish up their league schedule at 4-0-3. Bucknell struck first, with its tally coming 14:38 into play. Junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus), after receiving a pass from sophomore Lauren Stoller (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge), sent a cross into the box for senior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy), who headed the ball past goalkeeper Kelsey Wiggins for her sixth tally of the season. With the assist on the play, Dervarics improved her ranking in the Bison record books as she is now tied for seventh in single season points (28) and assists (6) and is seventh in career assists (13). In the 59th minute, Kelsey Brasher netted the equalizer for American on a left-footed shot from outside the box off a feed from Kelly McLaughlin. Dervarics narrowly missed giving the Bison back the lead with four minutes remaining in regulation, but sent the ball off the crossbar. Sophomore Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) made a career-high 12 saves for the Orange and Blue as the Bison were outshot by the Eagles, 20-14. Wiggins totaled seven saves for American, corner kicks were even at four and fouls were 11-10, against Bucknell. The Bison be back in action on Friday, Nov. 9, when the squad will face the No. 4 seed in the tournament in a Patriot League semifinal match on Varsity Soccer Field at 7 p.m. The No. 2-, 3- and 4-seeds in the tournament have yet to be determined.
