LEWISBURG, Pa. - With a goal in the 97th minute, sophomore Molly Linhart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel Area) helped the No. 1-seeded Bucknell women's soccer team secure a spot in the Patriot League Championship match, advancing past No. 4-seed Army, 2-1, in overtime on Varsity Soccer Field on Friday evening. The win, which was the 50th career victory for Bison head coach Ben Landis, moves the Orange and Blue to 11-7-1 on the year, while the Black Knights finish 2007 with a record of 7-8-3.

After a dangerous shot by Pia White of Army in the 12th minute sailed just over the crossbar, Bucknell managed to jump out to a 1-0 lead at 22:28. Linhart sent a long cross from the left-hand side of the Black Knights' goal to junior Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) who snuck in behind the defenders and drove a shot past goalkeeper Alex Lostetter in a one-on-one situation. With 30 points on the season, Dervarics now ranks fifth in program history, while her single-season goals total of 12 is tied for fifth.

The Bison came close to increasing their advantage to 2-0 in the 50th minute. However, a ball that was back-heeled by senior Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) was cleared off the line by Army defender Caroline Miller.

Then at the 71:56 mark, Jenna Roberts collected a loose ball that deflected off Bucknell sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) and trickled a shot into the net for the equalizer.

Despite several chances for the Bison late in the second half, the Black Knights held on to force overtime.

With 3:30 remaining in the first overtime period, Linhart connected with a free kick by freshman Caitlin Holtz (Freehold, N.J./Peddie School), directing a header just inside the far post for the deciding tally.

The Bison held a 13-9 shot advantage and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Sutton made four saves for Bucknell and Lostetter recorded three stops for Army. Fouls were 7-3, against the Orange and Blue.

Bucknell will next face No.-3 seed Navy on Sunday, Nov. 11, in the league championship match, which is slated to begin at 1 p.m., on Varsity Soccer Field. The winner of that contest will capture the Patriot League title and earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
