Nov. 5, 2007
LEWISBURG, Pa. - After clinching its second straight Patriot League regular season title with a 1-1 draw against American last Saturday, the Bucknell women's soccer team earned the right to play host to the league tournament for a second consecutive year, which will take place this Friday and Sunday, Nov. 9 and 11, on Varsity Soccer Field. In Friday's semifinal matches, the No. 1-seeded Bison, who finished the regular season with a record of 10-7-1, 5-1-1 in league play, will take on No. 4-seed Army at 7 p.m. In the earlier match, No. 2-seed American will face No. 3 Navy at 4 p.m. Live internet video broadcasts will be available for both semifinal matches, as well as the final, through Patriot League All-Access. The winners of Friday's games will advance to the championship match, which is slated for Sunday, Nov. 11, at 1 p.m. Bucknell will be in search of its second tournament title in the last three years, having won in 2005 at Lehigh as the No. 4 seed, defeating Army, 3-1, in the final after advancing past Lehigh on penalty kicks in the semifinal. The team capturing the 2007 Patriot League title will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's College Cup, of which the Bison have been participants both in 2001 and in 2005. This weekend marks the third time in history that the Women's Soccer Patriot League Tournament will be played in Lewisburg as Bucknell was the host in 1995 after going undefeated in its league games at 6-0-0 and, most recently, in 2006, following an upset victory over a nationally-ranked Navy squad in the final match of the regular season that brought the Bison to 6-1-0 in league play on the year and gave the squad the right to host as the tournament's No. 1 seed. Admission to the matches will be free for college students with a valid ID, while ticket prices have been set at $3 for adults and $1 for children of high school age and younger.
