Bucknell Women's Soccer Garners Six All-Patriot League Accolades

Nov. 7, 2007

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Six members of the Bucknell women's soccer team were honored with All-Patriot League first- and second-team selections, the Patriot League announced on Wednesday. Junior forward Jennifer Dervarics (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus), freshman midfielder Kelliann Doherty (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional), junior defender Nicole Marotta (Bridgewater, N.J./Mount St. Mary Academy) and sophomore goalkeeper Kathryn Sutton (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area) earned spots on the first team, as voted on by the Patriot League head women's soccer coaches, while senior forward Krista Lee Gentile (North Haledon, N.J./Immaculate Heart Academy) and sophomore defender Lauren Stoller (Basking Ridge, N.J./Ridge) collected second-team accolades.

Dervarics picks up her second all-league award after being named to the second team as a sophomore in 2006. She finished the regular season with a team-leading 11 goals and six assists for 28 points, which all rank among the top single-season point totals in program history. Dervarics, who was named the Damon's Bison Athlete of the Week this past Monday for a third time this fall, also collected Patriot League Player of the Week honors on Oct. 22, after tallying two goals in Bucknell's 3-1 win over Colgate.

With her accolade, Doherty becomes the first Bison freshman to be named to the All-Patriot League first team since Kristie Simon in 2000. Doherty, who has started all 18 games of her career thus far, has six goals and three assists to her credit for 15 points. The midfielder was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week two times this season, on Sept. 24 and again on Oct. 15.

Marotta earns her second selection of her career after being recognized as an all-league first-team honoree and the Patriot League Co-Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore in 2006. On the season, Marotta has appeared in 14 games, starting all 14, and has helped the Bison defense match a school record with five shutouts. She has one point on the season, dishing an assist in Bucknell's 6-0 victory against Lafayette.

Sutton, the first goalkeeper in program history to earn a first-team all-league nod, collects her first all-league award of her career. She has played and started 16 games in net this season for a total of 1,447 minutes, 4 seconds. Sutton, who was named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week four times in 2007, holds a 1.43 goals against average and a .777 save percentage with 80 saves on the year. Her record stands at 9-6-1, while she has four shutouts to her credit, as well.

Gentile, just the second member of the Orange and Blue all-time to earn a spot on the all-league squad in each of her four seasons, has garnered three second-team accolades after being named to the first team as a junior in 2006. As a senior this fall, Gentile has started all 18 matches, totaling 16 points on six goals and four assists. In 28 career regular season games against league opponents, she finished with 17 goals and eight assists for 42 points. On Oct. 15, she was honored as the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week after she totaled eight points over two matches, helping the Bison defeat Holy Cross, 6-0, and Army, 2-1.

Stoller is a second-team all-league recipient for a second straight year as the sophomore has been a key member of Bucknell's defensive unit, starting all 18 games this season and all 36 thus far in her career with the Orange and Blue. At American on Nov. 3, Stoller logged her first career point, recording an assist on the lone tally for the Bison, which helped the squad clinch the 2007 Patriot League regular season title.

The Bison next face No.-4 seed Army in a Patriot League semifinal match that is slated for Friday, Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. on Varsity Soccer Field.
