FORT MYERS, Fla. - Bucknell scored three runs in the first inning and carried a shutout into the seventh on its way to defeating Saint Peter's, 5-2, in softball action on Monday, March 12. The Bison picked up their first win of the season at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Orange and Blue sent seven batters to the plate in the first inning, collecting three hits on their way to the early 3-0 lead. The two teams played four scoreless innings before BU struck again in the top of the sixth frame. With two outs, junior tri-captain Jenna Demetriades (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua) drew a walk and junior Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly/Rancocas Valley) followed with a triple to right field that scored Demetriades. The next batter, senior tri-captain Charity Ford (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport) clubbed a triple to center field that scored Dugan and gave the Orange and Blue a 5-0 cushion.

Sophomore pitcher Lauren Box (Malvern, Pa./Villa Marie Academy) went the distance for Bucknell, tossing a four-hitter, striking out five and walking only two.
