Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Bucknell softball team improved its record to 4-2 with a 4-1 win over Saint Peter's on Wednesday, March 14, at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. It was the second time the Bison have defeated Saint Peter's on the spring break trip. Saint Peter's falls to 10-3 overall.

Bucknell sophomore shortstop Meredith Gill (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) opened Bucknell's half of the first inning with a double to right centerfield. Freshman second baseman Courtney Dohoney (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) followed with a sacrifice bunt that moved Gill up to third, and junior firstbaseman Kelly Dugan (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) stepped to the plate and hit a single to right field to score Gill. Two batters later, senoir tri-captain Steph Morgan (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) doubled to right field, scoring Dugan for the two-run cushion.

St. Peter's avoided the shutout when Danielle Bronner hit a double to right centerfield to score Nicole Tango and cut the lead to 2-1.

The Bison would get two more insurance runs in the fifth inning. Junior catcher Kathy Zeevalk (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) doubled down the right field line to open the frame. With runners on second and third, Gill stepped to the plate and collected her second double of the game, scoring both runners for the final margin.

Junior pitcher Lauren Potente (Ringwood, N.J./Lakeland) went the distance on the mound, striking out one and walking none while allowing six hits and one earned run.

Bucknell improves to 4-2 overall and faces Radford at 11:00 a.m. today, before taking on Manhattan at 1:00 p.m.
